Continuous Beam Analysis & Design

One of the most tedious tasks of structural analysis is to determine the envelope of values for shear and moment in statically indeterminate structural elements. Hopefully you have been trained in this area.  If not, please review the section on continuous beams found in A Beginner's Guide to Structural Mechanics and Analysis.

As shear is not typically a problem with steel beams, the major focus here is to develop moment envelopes to be used when sizing continuous beams and their cover plates, if used.
