BGASCE7-10 Section 5.9 Homework Problems Last Revised: 11/04/2014 The homework problems reference the BGSE drawing sets. Dormitory Building Design Problems Problem D5.1: The column at the intersection of grids G and 8 supports two floors and the roof. Considering the floor to support residential live load, determine the floor live load to be supported by the footing that supports the column (i.e. the load on the column at the first floor). Note that you will need to use analytical means to determine the tributary area supported by the column at each floor level. You will also need to explicitly identify the influence area at the floor levels. Problem D5.2: Using the frame on Grid B, sketch all the floor live loading patterns that should be considered. Include the magnitudes of the floor live loads to be supported by each beam. Problem H5.1: Determine the roof live load to be supported by the garage door header beam, Beam H305. Conservatively ignore the dormer on the roof above the header beam. Draw a beam load diagram for the roof live loading only. Problem H5.2: Determine the total live load to be applied to the footing located 11 ft from grid 1 and 17 ft from grid A. |
