Section 10.3

Shear Strength

Last Revised: 04/14/2021

Since the concrete does not contribute to the shear strength of the composite beam, SCM I4.2 states that "The available shear strength of composite beams with steel headed stud or steel channel anchors shall be determined based upon the properties of the steel section alone in accordance with Chapter G." While the section addresses composite beams with steel deck, it is the only section which provides guidance for computing the shear capacity of composite beams. It is consistent with past practice to apply SCM G to the computation of shear capacity of the steel beam when analyzing composite beams.

The computation of shear strength was discussed BGSCM 8.3.2.
